If you would have told me before I got my chickens I would be over protective of them, I would have laughed and said absolutely NO WAY! But here I am, an overbearing, chicken lover afraid to let her chickens out of their chicken mansion. Every UGLY possibility that could go wrong has crossed my mind…will they wander to far and get lost, will they get strangled by a vicious snake, will they get their head taken off by a sneaky bird, will they go to the road and get ran over??? EVERY SINGLE THOUGHT BAD, BAD, BAD!!!

"I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears."

Since they were little chicks in the brooder, I have been training them to my voice with a cute little tune…here chickee, chickee, chickeeeeeee! It was so amazing to watch them run to one side of the brooder, popping their little heads up, looking for me. They were in my living room almost three weeks before my husband moved them to the garage.

That was a hard move. Moving them to the chicken mansion was even harder! I don't think I slept a wink that first night. And then to find Lucy, who I nursed back to health, dead the next morning with two other chickens. I was beside myself. If they couldn't survive in the coop, how on earth was I suppose let them FREE RANGE?

When I daydreamed about having chickens, I pictured them in my yard, playing with my children, enjoying life on our farm. There was no Chicken Prison. Well, the day finally came. I'd like to say it was my idea and they were too timid to venture out, but no. Opening the coop door, they made it clear it was time to soar as they spread their wings, took flight and flew right out of the coop. One by one they were escaping my umbrella of protection. I wasn't ready to let go, but it was time.

What was I thinking? Letting fear hold my chickens captive! Today, I smiled as I watched my 27 chickens FREE RANGE from my kitchen window. Happy Chickens for sure. AND what do I want more than happy chickens…Happy Children. God showed me today, it's time to let go of my fear and let my children live as they soar to new heights God has purposed for them.

I Don't Have ANY Friends…I Have MANY!

Haha! I guess so…because today I'm sharing what I have learned about love and friendships through the relationship of Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth.

Until recently, I can honestly say I haven't had many 'friends'. You know the ones…the ones that call you up just because, the ones that want to get together just for fun, the ones you can confide in, the ones that tell you the 'raw' truth, the ones that text you in the morning or even midnight with a word of encouragement, the ones that know your hurting without you saying a single word, the ones that know you better than your social media followers, the ones that don't just take, but give to your friendship.

"But Ruth replied, 'Don't urge me to leave you or turn back from you.
Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.'"
Ruth 1:16-17

Naomi and Ruth had a love and friendship that is to be desired. Their greatest bond was their faith in God. Their commitment to one another was mutual, not one sided. They wanted what was best for each other.

Okay, so I know what some of you are already thinking…I don't have any friends! No one ever calls me out of the blue, no one ever invites me to do something just for fun, I wish I had someone to confide in, someone to tell me the 'raw' truth, that will send me an encouraging text, someone that knows and cares about me, a friendship like Naomi and Ruth.

"A man that has friends must show himself friendly."
Proverbs 18:24

So here is the question of the day…Are you doing any of these things I listed? You want friends? You have to throw yourself out there and ENGAGE. Take a risk. Trust me when I say they will be just as nervous as you! I have met so many new people and our friendships are blossoming into something beautiful. Out of my new friendships, only ONE engaged me first. The rest I invited into my home. Don't be afraid...Plant the seed, tend to it, and watch it grow!
